Apple Music Streaming Service

When we talk about the hottest trend in Apple gadgets, Apple music will be the one. Launched during the Annual worldwide conference, Apple has expanded its horizons and blended this new streaming service in iOS 8.4 and iTunes 12.2. There are many FAQ’s regarding the Apple Music streaming service such as will it replace iTunes? Will it help us listen to the music offline? What actually is apple music? What will happen to the existing beats subscription?

Part 1. Apple Music Streaming FAQ

1. What is Apple Music Streaming Service?

This is a pre-installed music service on all the new iOS and OS X devices and the users will now be able to easily stream their favorite music, instead of purchasing it. If you are an Apple user, all you have to do is pay a flat fee and get an easy access to more than 25 million songs stored in the Apple music library. This would also act like storage for your personal music collection that you would like to listen time and again.

2. What's the Difference between Apple Music and iTunes?

iTunes is majorly about media ownership as it stores virtual records and other media such as Podcasts, TV shows, movies, etc. Also, you do not need to pay any kind of subscription fee to get iTunes because all the songs, movies or the TV shows were purchased individually at different times from iTunes store or from some other sources. Whereas when we speak about Apple music, it’s only about streaming. You pay one -time fee and you unlock the world of apple music catalogue which you do not own actually. The files are not actually stored on your device but you are just able to listen to the tracks that are there in the Apple music library.

3. So Is iTunes Dead Now?

No, not exactly! If you are still willing to access iTunes on your device, you can just tap the My Music tab and you will find your media stored under the iTunes library.

4. How Much is the Subscription?

If you have an iCloud family sharing, you will have to pay $14.99 per month including 6 family members or $9.99 individually. There is an option of three months of trial service that you can avail before paying the flat fee amount.

5. What iOS Devices do Apple Music Support?

All the apple devices with iOS 8.4 and above such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods support this service. Also, Apple is set to launch this service in Apple TV and Android phones this fall/winter.

6. Will It Work Well with Airplay?

Of course yes! Every song that you will select to listen will have an Airplay button just next to it. You need to tap on the Airplay button and select the desirable device to beam to.

Part 2. Media Comments for Apple Music

  1. Apple Music has a lot of potential, but its iCloud Music Library bugs and the very confusing interface which keep it from being better than Spotify,
  2. Apple Music lets you listen to 30 million songs from the iTunes catalog, plus any music you've purchased from iTunes over the years. The app's recommendation system uses both algorithms and humans to pick the perfect tunes for you. Siri helps you find new and vintage music with some new voice commands.
  3. The app's design is cluttered with too much information and is quite difficult browse or to navigate. iCloud Music Library is complicated and inconsistent, and isn't working correctly for everyone.
  4. Sound quality is pretty disappointing. I won't labor the point here but in times where we're pushing for high resolution music, 256kpbs MP3 is not good enough. It's noticeably inferior to other similar platforms when listening with a decent pair of headphones. Sorry Apple, it's not good enough - particularly as you, of all brands can do a lot better.

Part 3. User Comments for Apple Music

  1. I love the new Apple music streaming service and find it better than Spotify any day. I love the fact that they have given a free trial which lasts for a decent period of 90 days. Most services offer 30 days free trial but I totally agree with the three month period.
  2. Apple Music app has made things so easy for someone like me who is a music fan. I can listen to radio stations like Beats1, get curated playlists, share my playlists and also access music on multiple devices. I am a huge Apple fan but this service has turned me into an even bigger fan.
  3. Apple has really put music discovery at the very heart of this service and I think it seriously works. For those people out there who like music but don't know what to listen to and how to get to know about new artists and songs, Apple Music could be a dream come true. I don't usually like to be told what to listen to, but I'm looking forward to testing its effectiveness - does Apple know my music taste better than I do? We'll soon see!
  4. What I really like about this service is that it really helps me reach to new music and that too from all across the world. I can get special playlists especially curated for me and according to my taste. The fact that actual human experts are suggesting these lists makes me really want to listen to those songs. I am suddenly the more informed music fan among my group of friends. Way to go Apple!

  1. Apple music consumed about 28% of my battery today, but the main problem is that I used a lot of other power consuming apps today and that wasn't one of them... 28% was when I wasn't even using Apple Music and it even wasn't on in the background! This led me to shut down all the ongoing updates and background refresh just so that I could charge my phone for a few hours. Seriously Apple!? I left Please Get your act (back) together!!!
  2. I totally hate the new itunes music app. Most of the music I downloaded or streamed is either hidden or is gone on my iPad air. I want my old iTunes back right now. Fortunately it did not corrupt iTunes on my iPhone or computer. Now I am terrified to even download any kinds of updates from Apple. I will obviously never pay for this streaming service in its current form. I wish I knew how to cancel this free trial sooner.
  3. I hate the new service! I don’t want to sign up for the plan and I have no desire to stream this service on upto 6 devices although we have enough devices to do it! I want to be able to go and buy the songs I want like I used to be able to do!
  4. I am so frustrated with this whole subscription service stuff. For some reason I cannot make even half the songs available offline because it tells me that the service is inactive and that I can’t play music. I find it useless.
  5. Sound quality is really disappointing! This is something which wasn’t expected out of Apple. Apple has always aced things but this time it seems to have made a big mistake.
